APCC Victims Lead welcomes Sajid Javid’s speech to get tough on tech companies

03/09/2018

Dame Vera Baird QC said:

“I welcome the Home Secretary’s call for technology companies to step up and do much more to tackle on-line child sexual abuse. The scale and severity of on-line child sexual abuse is evolving and increasing; the tech industry has a duty to work with law enforcement to do whatever they can to assist the police, help combat this appalling crime and keep children safe from sexual predators.”

APCC Deputy Victims Lead, Marc Jones, said:

“I wholeheartedly support this announcement. I recently established a network of senior figures from Law Enforcement, Government and the Voluntary Sector to look at how we might be able to work together more effectively to tackle the abhorrent crimes of Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. One of the key areas identified the need to work with technology companies and Government to tackle on-line abuse; we should make it far harder for perpetrators to commit offences and access material on-line. Also, going forward, we will be looking to work with the Home Secretary to support this important work.”
