Elections: Your Voice Your Police
Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are elected every four years. The most recent PCC election was on Thursday 2 May 2024.
In the pre-election period, this page was used to highlight the important role and remit of PCCs across England and Wales in reducing crime and making communities safer and why it was important to vote on the 2 May.
We highlighted five areas of work that demonstrated how PCCs were making a real difference:
Supporting victims
Victims advocacy is at the heart of everything PCCs do. By commissioning essential services, they are supporting victims in their journey to recovery.

PCCs work closely with local authority partners and community groups to tackle ASB, which is a key priority in their Police and Crime Plans.

PCCs recognise that a whole system approach is needed which draws together partners from across the board to effect change.

The best way to prevent crime is to stop it happening in the first place. PCCs work with partners across not just policing, but health, social care, local authorities, and charities on innovative approaches for crime reduction and prevention.

Accountability, governance, and visibility
PCCs are the voice of the people and hold the police to account. They are responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of policing in their force areas.
