Rupert Matthews
Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire
0116 229 8980

Rupert Matthews was first elected as PCC for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in 2021 and was re-elected in 2024.

His first term of Office was characterised by a firm focus on crime prevention, which successfully saw crime levels falling across the force area.

This commitment remains, alongside a determination to raise the visibility of, and accessibility to, police officers in all communities including those in rural areas.

A former Member of the European Parliament for the East Midlands, he also spent eight years as a unitary authority councillor and is currently a Parish Councillor in the Leicestershire village where he lives.

By profession he is a highly regarded historian, an author of numerous books and has been a specialist advisor on films such as Ben Hur.
