APCC response to Government announcement on stop and search

01/04/2019

David Munro, the APCC Lead on Equality, Diversity and Human Rights (EDHR) and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, said the following:

"I welcome any moves which could help to keep all our communities safe from the scourge of knife crime. I am glad to hear that in the areas where changes to Section 60 are taking place that forces will be expected to engage with communities – this is vital in order to ensure that communities can be involved in the fight against knife crime, and that trust in policing can be maintained and built on.

"Whilst this one aspect of the Best Use of Stop and Search Scheme is being relaxed in seven areas, it is vital that forces across England and Wales remain faithful to the Scheme’s guiding principles of transparency, accountability and community involvement."
