Statement from the APCC Chair Donna Jones, relating to the planned protest in London this weekend
In view of the discussion relating to the planned protest in London this weekend, APCC Chair Donna Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said:
“Remembrance Sunday is a cherished date each year and a time for people across Britain to remember the sacrifices others made for our freedoms. The planned pro-Palestinian protests that have been taking place in London each Saturday have the potential to interfere with the planned weekend national commemorations.
“The MET police have taken steps to create exclusion zones in the capital to manage the smooth running of commemorations and protests. This is a complex situation from a public order policing perspective. As Police and Crime Commissioners, we work closely with the National Police Chiefs Council and the Home Office to ensure that the public’s views are heard and that police forces operate in an effective way.”
