APCC response to Chancellor's Spending Round
Responding to the Chancellor's Spending Round Statement, APCC Finance Lead, Roger Hirst PFCC said:
“Today’s investment in policing is extremely welcome. The spending round announcement clearly sets out how the Government will provide an additional £750m next year to recruit and fund an increase in the number of police officers, with £45m more money now to ensure that recruitment can start this month.
“This funding is welcome because demand on police services is increasing, whether that be from drug crimes, the internet, or new crimes defined by the government. There is now a huge opportunity for policing to deliver more for the public, providing safer communities and better outcomes for victims.
“Police and Crime Commissioners will continue to work with Government and the National Police Chiefs Council to make sure these officers land where they will make most difference.”
APCC Deputy Finance Lead, Paddy Tipping PCC said:
“This is an excellent announcement from the Chancellor that provides much needed new investment for the police. We will work closely with the Home Office to deliver 6,000 new officers by 31 March 2021. Residents want to see a more visible presence on our streets and Police and Crime Commissioners, Chief Constables and the Home Office are working together on the case.”
