APCC response to the Report of the Chief Inspector of Probation
Responding to today’s Report of the Chief Inspector of Probation, APCC Criminal Justice Lead David Lloyd PCC said:
“Police and Crime Commissioners continue to make the case for how we can play a key role in delivering new arrangements for probation services locally. PCCs work with partners to ensure an efficient and effective local criminal justice system and in doing so provide transparency and accountability in how those services are being delivered to meet the needs of the local communities and the criminal justice system more broadly.
“In the long-term, the APCC still strongly believes that offender management services should ultimately be devolved to PCCs, and, in the meantime, we are working closely with Government and partners to develop a stronger more formal partnership role for PCCs as part of the new arrangements.”
