APCC supports International Women’s Day 2024
Today marks International Women’s Day 2024. The event is an opportunity to celebrate the huge social, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe while demanding greater awareness and action for gender parity.
APCC Chair Donna Jones said: “I am proud to support International Women’s Day 2024 and to recognise the remarkable achievements of women and girls throughout history and in the present day.
“Across the country, PCCs are playing an instrumental role in championing the voices and progression of women and girls, particularly their right to live confidently and safely without the fear or threat of violence. Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a core focus in most Police and Crime Plans and significant investment has been levelled at challenging the misogynistic attitudes and behaviour that underpin gender-based violence.
“The projects PCCs are funding not only empower women to lead change but are also harnessing the support and contribution of men in fighting for a safer and gender-equal future for women and girls in their communities. Clearly, we still have a long way to go but meaningful progress is being made.
“This year’s International Women’s Day theme is to ‘Inspire Inclusion’. The diverse and rewarding careers offered by policing are supporting women to advance and excel in all areas of criminal justice and as PCCs we will continue to support all women to take their first or next steps in their policing careers.”
