Improving criminal justice outcomes for women

31/01/2023

APCC Custody Lead has welcomed the publication of the Female Offender Strategy Delivery Plan today, Tuesday 31 January.

The delivery plan sets out how the Government will deliver four overarching priorities to improve outcomes for women in, or at risk of contact with, the criminal justice system over the period 2022-2025.

APCC Custody Lead and Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell, said: “A year after the National Audit Office encouraged the Ministry of Justice to prioritise the work to deliver improved outcomes for women in the criminal justice, we welcome the publication of this delivery plan and this commitment from the Government.

“This delivery plan is an important step in preventing reoffending, through working with partner organisations to divert women away from the criminal justice system and provide support to tackle the underlying causes.

“As PCCs we will continue to invest in programmes and initiatives to prevent, support and divert women away from crime, delivering better outcomes for individuals and ensuring the safety of our communities and we will continue to work with the Ministry of Justice to ensure this work is prioritised.”
