Paid-for advertising to be included in the Online Safety Bill
"As the Economic and Cybercrime Leads for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC), we welcome the Government’s decision to include paid-for advertising in the Online Safety Bill.
"We believe that people must be protected from scam adverts and support this inclusion in the Bill as a major step forward in reducing online crime. It shows the necessity of including fraud as a priority harm and the benefits gained from doing so.
"The view that victims of fraud only suffer financial harm is inaccurate. Victims, many often highly vulnerable, suffer great psychological and emotional harm. Just because fraud doesn’t bang, bleed or shout doesn’t mean it should not be prioritised."
