Police issuing fines to those who break the coronavirus rules

“Police officers have discretion in how they implement the regulations. Generally, they take a common sense approach and seek to engage and explain rather than enforce through a fixed penalty notice.
“The vast majority of the public understand the seriousness of the situation and are behaving sensibly and safely.
“We need to be clear that we can’t police our way out of the crisis. The way forward is for everyone to behave in a respectful and responsible manner.”
