Proposed Change to Chief Constable Appointments
Responding to The Times article today which states that police chief jobs will be opened to civilians, APCC Police Leadership Portfolio Lead, Dafydd Llywelyn said:
“As part of their role in representing the public, Police and Crime Commissioners are charged with power to appoint chief constables under the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. PCCs are engaging with the Leadership Review process and have a keen interest in making sure that the talent pool of applicants for these key roles is as broad and deep as possible.
“The APCC Police Leadership and Workforce Portfolio Leads have been made aware of the proposals to open up recruitment to those who have not served as a police constable, will examine the implications in detail over the coming weeks and will feed in our views via the APCC.”
