World Suicide Prevention Day

10/09/2019

Today (10th September) marks World Suicide Prevention Day. Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) have a public platform, which means we can play an important role in raising awareness of serious issues and events, including suicide, and remind people there is support out there for anyone in this difficult situation and for those people unfortunately bereaved by suicide.

APCC Deputy Portfolio Lead for Mental Health & Custody, Martyn Underhill said:

“Police and Crime Commissioners are responsible for working with Chief Constables and local partners to deliver quality public services, as well commissioning vital support services for victims of crime. On World Suicide Prevention Day, I want to highlight the importance of the Suicide Prevention Quality Standard.

“The Standard, published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and endorsed by the Department of Health & Social Care, is targeted at commissioning agencies and service providers and is a valuable guide to informing the important partnership work of PCCs.”
