Safety and security of candidates and elected officials

15/05/2023

APCC Chair Marc Jones, said:

“Those who stand for elected office should be able to do so without fear for their safety or the safety of their family.

“Anybody who feels that they have suffered harassment or abuse, whether they are standing for office or not, should feel able to report these concerns to the police and receive the appropriate response.

“Nationally, we continue to have concerns around the safety and security of those who are in elected office or who stand for election. Nobody, no matter who they are, should be subjected to abuse, harassment, or fear for their own safety."

“We continue to work closely with our national policing partners and the Local Government Association on this important issue and will be pursuing recommendations to ensure the safety of all candidates and elected officials.”
